What is the lifework project?

The lifework project showcases the lives of everyday people that have sought to place Christ at the centre of their pursuits and to document the profound impact on their journey. It outlines success factors that are drawn from the Bible and influence all facets of life, with particular emphasis on the workplace since connecting work with faith is a universal issue in our world. The lifework project is not to be construed as an entry into the foray of self-help nor does it seek to build profiles of experts. It simply highlights biblical wisdom through the lives of everyday people.

At the heart of the site is the workshop, Christians and Success in the Workplace, a series of online sessions that address important topics like Goals, Vision, Responsibility and Barriers to Success, to name a few. It’s supplemented by articles and videos that reinforce the principles outlined and share candid and personal stories of lessons learned for all generations.

How was the lifework project started?

The lifework project was founded by two men with different perspectives yet a common vision…

In his retirement, Joe Schuringa had developed a workshop based on his extensive life and work experience to help Christians thrive in the workplace. He had uncovered success principles presented in the Bible, enacted them in his own life to miraculous results, and sought to empower others to realize their God-given potential. Dan Ramlogan was in the crux of midlife and recently emerged from a work crisis where he was greatly blessed by the mentorship of experienced Christians. They helped him navigate through the ordeal and fostered in him a deep appreciation for godly intergenerational mentorship.

Both men came together with a vision to strengthen the roots of Christ followers, who are often like tall trees catching strong winds. The result was the launch of the lifework project, an online platform for sharing stories, teaching and insights that communicate biblical wisdom and success principles. The site seeks to inspire believers to consider the eternal impact of their life work; to bring clarity, inspiration and encouragement to anyone that visits. However, the ultimate goal is to help Christians move from knowing to believing and thereby produce meaningful life change.

The Christian and Success in the Workplace Seminar

The primary objective of this workshop is to familiarize Christ followers with the laws that govern success and to provide them with the tools which, when properly used, will help produce the desired results in every facet of life, including their…

  • Walk with God
  • Testimony to their faith at work
  • Setting and achieving goals
  • Careers
  • Prayer life
  • Relationships

A key focus is to present strategies on how to stand tall for Christ and glorify Him in the workplace. In a world where a very large percentage of believers experience genuine difficulty in this area, the workshop teaches that success is both a beautiful and biblical word – just look at the examples of Daniel and Joseph! Matthew 5:14 says, “You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” The sessions show how this can be accomplished without even saying a word.

The Bible offers extensive guidance on how believers are to approach their work…

  • Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the gloryof God. 1Cor 10:31
  • Workwillingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Col 3:23
  • Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.Ecc 9:10

The workshop takes these truths and brings them to life by providing the tools that enable Christians to shine for Christ in their place of work or wherever God has placed them. Lifework does this in an easy-to-understand, practical way by familiarizing students with the Laws that Govern success in every area of one’s life. It goes on to show how obedience to these success laws will – with God’s blessing – see their God-honoring goals realized.

Ultimately, this lifework seminar desires to help Christians plug into the transforming power of Jesus Christ to Go Beyond and embrace an expanded vision and more daring expectations.

He’s been an active member of the Alliance church, an advocate of Christian education and avid supporter of global training and missions. In addition to serving on commercial association boards, Joe has served on the Boards for Youth for Christ, Make Peace International, Ambrose University and Teach Beyond.
